Honesty, hard work and ethical business strategies are the three things real estate agents need to employ in order to succeed, Toop & Toop real estate agent Alex McGregor-Reid claimed.

Mr McGregor-Reid this week won the Real Estate Institute of South Australia’s (REISA) Salesperson of the Year award, which celebrates both sales achievement and commitment to customer service.

According to Mr McGregor-Reid, the key to success is staying in touch with your clients and working hard to deliver the best result for the vendor and property buyer.

“This year, more than 65 per cent of my business was repeat or referral, so it is crucially important that I deliver the best service possible to all my clients in order to keep them coming back or referring my services on to friends and family,” he said.

Mr McGregor-Reid, who this year sold in excess of 60 properties for more than $40 million, said it is imperative for agents to be honest and transparent with their customers.

“A buyer and a vendor will know if you are pulling the wool over their eyes, so I always make sure I employ honest and ethical business strategies,” he said.

“I also set myself goals and budgets to work towards. I set myself a gross commission and work backwards from there. I even go so far as to establish the exact amount of appraisals I will need to do in order to achieve my target.”

Mr McGregor-Reid said despite his recent run of success in the REISA Awards for Excellence, it has not been a solo effort and credits everything to his colleagues.
