A property expert veteran has been appointed as CBRE NSW’s new retail leasing team leader to strengthen the firm’s presence in the Sydney CBD market.
CBRE has announced that David Swann will take leadership of its NSW retail leasing team, where he will focus on leveraging the emerging growth opportunities in the state’s commercial property sector.
With over 30 years of property experience, Swann brings a range of insights gained in previous senior positions at LaSalle Investment Management and Sim Lian Metro Capital, and from retail leasing roles at Lendlease and Stockland Corporation Limited.
CBRE said that Swann’s three decades in the industry, spanning retail leasing, development, asset management and fund creation, gave him a deep understanding of the drivers within the diverse property sector.
Swann said he will draw on knowledge and industry connections to perform his new role at CBRE’s NSW retail leasing team, where he will specialise in retail leasing within the Sydney CBD market.
“My focus will be on adding value to my clients’ real estate by leveraging the extensive network of retailer relationships I’ve built over my 30-plus years in the retail property industry,” Swann said.
Swann highlighted that enduring interest and demand for commercial property in the Sydney CBD have left him optimistic for the market’s prospects over 2025.
“I see the Australian retail property market remaining resilient despite recent offshore market headwinds, with prime downtown, well-located CBD assets continuing to benefit from investor and retailer demand,” he said.
He stated that the heightened demand for prominent retail locations in the Sydney CBD indicates that further growth is firmly on the horizon for the capital city’s commercial property market.
“We are seeing growth in the luxury, food and beverage and sport and leisure sectors, with retailers seeking high-profile locations in shopping centres and high streets,” Swann said.
“Against this backdrop, I’m looking forward to reconnecting with my networks and building new relationships with CBD owners and occupiers,” he added.
CBRE’s Pacific head of retail property management and leasing, Sheree Griff, said the commercial property sector has undergone significant transformation.
“We’re continuing to see a shift towards experiential retail and increased demand for flexible leasing solutions,” Griff explained.
“David’s appointment will strengthen our ability to navigate this market change, drive innovation and capitalise on emerging opportunities across the NSW retail sector,” she concluded.
