The real reason you’re feeling the heat from competitors

It’s a complaint I hear almost weekly: “There’s more competition than ever.” The reality? There is always going to be competition. But whether you let that become an excuse or use it as fuel is entirely up to you, writes Adrian Bo, CEO of Adrian Bo Real Estate Training & Auctions.

Start with a self-audit

Before pointing to the market, your area, or your competitors, do an honest audit of your own input. Are you working enough hours to justify the results you want? Are you genuinely doing the daily activities that move the needle, or are you simply busy being busy?

 
 

If you’re not putting in enough hours, start there. You need to do more. If you are working the hours, then it’s time to double the intensity.

What does doubling intensity look like?

Success in this industry is never accidental. It’s a byproduct of relentless consistency in the areas that matter:

  • Sharpening your listing presentation until it’s world-class.
  • Upping the standard of vendor communication and transparency.
  • Going beyond transactional with buyer relationships.
  • Making every open for inspection a performance, not a process.
  • Walking into auctions with clarity, control, and confidence.
  • Committing to daily role play and rehearsal, even if you’ve been in the industry for 20 years.

Mastery is not about volume, it’s about precision. You should be refining every aspect of your business as though you’re competing in a professional sport. Because in many ways, you are.

The discipline gap

The agents who truly dominate their market are not just working harder. They are operating with focus, consistency, and a growth mindset. They show up with a plan, they measure performance, and they keep improving every week.

That’s what separates the pros from the pack.

The truth about competition

Yes, the industry is full of agents. Yes, there are more marketing channels, platforms, and personalities than ever before. But the only thing that really matters is your output and your skill set.

If you are constantly refining your craft, building your brand, and exceeding expectations, then competition becomes irrelevant. You create your own demand.

The challenge is not that there are too many agents. The challenge is that most agents aren’t willing to work at a level where competition becomes obsolete.

So next time you feel the pressure rising, don’t look around. Look inward. That’s where your edge is built.
