Under tight timelines and heavy scrutiny, The Block’s Britt and Taz continue to deliver their vision of modern organic luxury, but how do they keep their cool under reno stress? REB speaks with The Block’s top contenders.

For Britt and Taz, one of the biggest hurdles on this season of The Block has been blending Daylesford’s rustic heritage with modern wellness luxury, all while making high-pressure design calls under the relentless pace of Australia’s most competitive renovation show.

Speaking to REB, the two Western Australian cops shared their design philosophy, their strategies for handling intense feedback, and their approach to staying resilient as both renovators and partners in the spotlight.

Daylesford is known as the spa capital of Australia, and we drew inspiration from that sense of relaxation, retreat, and connection to nature,” Britt and Taz explained.

We also noticed Daylesford has two distinct styles – bold and colourful on one hand, and traditional country on the other. We wanted to put our own spin on it by blending modern country with our version of modern organic luxury: calm, grounded spaces that celebrate natural textures but still feel elevated and fresh.

While judges have questioned whether their style reflects Daylesford’s heritage closely enough, the couple believes their homes must meet both market expectations and the evolving needs of modern buyers.

We definitely respect the character and heritage of Daylesford, and that was always in our minds,” they said.

But we also believe buyers want a home that feels fresh and elevated, something they can see themselves living in long term. If it’s an Airbnb, people travel to Daylesford for the spas, so we wanted to create something that feels like a wellness resort – a home where guests can relax, replenish, and recharge before they leave. That’s why we layered in natural textures, soft tones, and an atmosphere of calm while still staying true to our style.”

Judge Marty Fox once described their bathroom as resembling an “upmarket abattoir,” a critique the pair took on board while still backing their creative instincts.

We always listen to feedback, but at the same time we stand by the fact that we love the space we created,” they said.

It was bold, it was different, and it reflected our style. Not every risk will resonate with everyone, but we’d rather back ourselves and create something unique than play it too safe.

But the glamour of television hides a relentless reality, with long hours, emotional fatigue, and immense physical pressure testing contestants’ ability to stay focused and motivated.

“The pace. You’re working under pressure every single day – long hours, physical exhaustion, and still needing to make huge design calls quickly,” they explained.

There have been moments where it felt overwhelming, but we’ve learnt to lean on each other and keep focused on why we’re here. Reminding ourselves it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity has helped us keep pushing.

As partners, Britt and Taz have also faced the emotional intensity of working side by side, relying on communication and humour to keep their relationship strong while building their dream spaces under scrutiny.

We’ve both worked in high-pressure jobs as police officers, so we’re used to relying on each other when the stakes are high,” they said.

Communication is the biggest thing – even if we don’t agree in the moment, we try to hear each other out. And honestly, laughter helps. If you can laugh when things go wrong, you take the sting out of it and move forward as a team.
