Almost 50 per cent of agents are closing themselves off to greater business opportunities by using just one online listing portal, new research has found.

In a recent Real Estate Business straw poll, 47.7 per cent of the 459 respondents claim they commonly use one online listing website when selling a property, while 32.7 per cent said they use four or more.

First National Metro director George Koukides believes agents which use four or more online listing sites when selling a home will have an immediate advantage over their competition.

“If you are listing homes across multiple platforms and your competition is only using the one, the benefit is you will have a better selling tool for vendors,” he said.

“We receive enquires from various websites and this may mean the difference between a vendor listing their property with us or one of our competitors.”

These comments were largely echoed by Sydney based agency True Property.

The group’s sales director Braden Walters told Real Estate Business he was shocked to learn so many agents are using just one online listing website.

“It’s simple, throw out a bigger net and you’ll catch more fish,” Mr Walters said

“There is no denying the dominant players in the game are Domain and Realestate.com, but with so many other options available and the growing up-take in Facebook and Twitter, there really is no reason for not taking advantage of it all.”
