An exclusive real estate training academy run by McGrath Estate Agents will seek to identify and educate 25 of the industry’s next generation of “elite” professionals.
“There are plenty of young people with talent and ambition who find themselves in situations where they will never reach their full potential,” said John McGrath, CEO at McGrath Estate Agents.
“The [McGrath] Academy sets out to change this and become the elite training ground for the best real estate professionals in Australia.
“When you look around the top performing agents, you will frequently find they learned their craft at McGrath, operating in a workplace which nurtures talent and teaches the skills necessary in today’s highly competitive and demanding real estate environment.”
Mr McGrath pointed to Pauline Goodyer, Georgia Cleary, Ivan Bresic, Shannon Whitney, Michael Pallier and Barry Goldman as industry professionals who have honed their skills at McGrath before going on to establish their own successful agencies.
The company said the McGrath Academy has been established with the goal of offering a structured pathway for skills development, training and mentoring to a select group of just 25 students each year under its Future Leaders Program.
First recruits will start the 18-month course in January 2013 however the campaign to find ambitious and talented young people begins next month ahead of selection interviews to be held in October.
Mr McGrath said the bar would be set high for inclusion in the program, with the benchmark set at the key behaviours, motivators, talents and skills needed for “superior real estate sales performance”. Applicants who match the benchmark criteria will then undertake a three-part interview process before an interview panel to advance into the program.
The company said students will spend the first two weeks in the classroom, after which they will be able to apply for a certificate of registration and begin fulltime employment in a McGrath office. During the following 18 months they will attend fortnightly accountability meetings, a full day face-to-face coaching session every month as well as group forums involving guest speakers and industry experts.
At the successful completion of the McGrath Academy Future Leader Program, graduates will be able to apply for a full real estate licence.
Mr McGrath said many young people entered the real estate industry with high ambition only to be disappointed by a lack of structured career development.
“Real estate agents are frequently involved in multi-million dollar transactions and the industry must change to reflect the role played by agents in wealth creation,” he said. “Now it is more important than ever to have agents develop a large suite of skills to help their clients buy and sell in a challenged economic environment.”
The academy will be headed by Chris Williams, who has worked in the education and training profession with franchise, marketing and independent real estate groups in Australia and New Zealand for 35 years.
Enrollment in the McGrath Academy will cost the successful applicant $6,500.00 + GST to join the 18-month program.
