A new campaign by one of Australia’s leading real estate brands has seen record numbers of visitors flock to its website.

LJ Hooker, winner of the Major Network of the Year - Over 100 Offices at the recent Australian Real Estate Awards, has experienced a 22 per cent month-on-month increase in visitor traffic to its website since launching their spring appraisals campaign.

The campaign, running from August 1 to October 31, offers property owners and agents the chance to win one million Qantas points for conducting an appraisal.

The drive has generated more than 6,300 appraisals in the first two weeks since its launch. One office recorded an astonishing 188 appraisals.

LJ Hooker head of marketing and technology Ryan Campbell said owners and investors rarely took check of what their home or rental property was worth.

“People can tell you what they have in their shares portfolio, superannuation or term deposit pretty easily, but ask them to pinpoint how much equity they hold in their home or investment property and they have to guess,’’ said Mr Campbell.

“Especially in tightly-held suburbs, owners have a ballpark idea, but rarely is it accurate. It’s not actually until they make a firm commitment to sell that they engage a real estate professional for a property appraisal.

“As the figures show, the one million Qantas points offer has proved to be a very attractive incentive for agents and vendors – that many points will inspire the imagination of even the most worldly traveller."

Mr Campbell said a vast majority of appraisals booked were for properties that had been held for longer than five years.

Mr Campbell said LJ Hooker Mile End, in South Australia, recently undertook an appraisal for a couple in Fulham, Adelaide. It was the first time the couple had received an appraisal since they built on the site in 1963.

Their home was appraised at $650,000 – significantly higher than the couple anticipated.

“Until people have an appraisal conducted, they don’t know the true equity they hold in their property,” he said.

“For most people, their home is their most valuable asset, and through the spring appraisals campaign, we’re communicating that to the market.’’
