Fearless agents achieve success: CEO

Anything is possible if you have goals and you have no fear, according to one of Australia’s fastest selling agents.

Director of All Properties Group Chris Gilmour has grown his company from one office with four staff to three offices and 51 staff, and achieved nearly 80 per cent of his market share - all in five years.

Mr Gilmour has attributed his success to a combination of good staff, good management and good coaches.

“I had set goals on what I wanted to achieve within the business, so it’s been a lot of hard work and motivation and being focused on what I want,” he said.

“I had to make it happen, so I knew what I had to do. I surrounded myself with the best agents in the area and fed off them to pick up the skills I needed, and I got a coach early in my career and have been absolutely focused on what I wanted.”

Mr Gilmour said from the start, he was never afraid to ask for the business.

“No one is going to give it to you. You have to ask the questions: Do you want to list? Do you want to sell? Do you want to buy? Do you want to rent?" he said.

"We all know what we want to do, but I think fear and complacency get in the way.

"There are a lot of people with potential, but they don’t want to be business owners because they’ve got that fear. I’ve got no fear. I’ll go in there ten-fold."

Mr Gilmour shared his story with 400 agents who converged on the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre for the annual REAL Event last Friday.

“I basically gave my life journey of how I got to where I am,” he told Real Estate Business after the event.

“It was a really personal story that I have never shared anywhere before.”

His advice to agents was to not worry about what other people were saying and be “laser focused” on what they wanted, and to go for it.

Co-founder of the REAL Event Peter Ford told Real Estate Business the one-day conference was a success.

“The event went really well and there was a good energy about the place,” he said. “We had a full trade show, which sold out a couple months before the event.”
