Have you only ever considered working for a big real estate network? One agent reveals what other options are out there and how different models can help you succeed in the competitive world of agents.

Josh Sherwood from Freedom Property talks to REB about why the network's approach to real estate businesses works for him. 

How long have you been a real estate agent?
About 10 years now.

How much of that time have you been with Freedom Property? 
Since it started, which was about three and a half years ago now. 

Why did you choose to switch to Freedom Property? 
Just for the database, the systems and then also obviously the commission rates, the commission structure. 

What is the best thing about being a real estate agent?
Running your own business I think, being your own boss. Helping people, working with some really good people and meeting a lot of nice people just through doing what you’re doing. 

What is the biggest challenge currently facing agents? 
Probably external factors, just the market in general. Sometimes I think for agents personally, getting advertising, choosing the right processes, that kind of stuff. 

Do you think being a part of a network helps agents overcome these challenges? 
Yeah definitely.

Do you have any advice for independent agents who may be struggling or agents who are unhappy with their current network?
I would be encouraging people to get a good database and good systems in, and spend money boosting your own profile. 

How do you structure your day? Do you have an ideal day? 
My day consists of trying to make as many calls as I can each day. Then in-between that I’m doing appointments, seeing buyers, seeing sellers. Just trying to get my face out there really. 

What would be doing if you weren’t an agent?
I haven’t got a clue. Maybe I would be a tradie of some sort I think. 

How do you think your network compares to others?
Freedom is a really good brand. It’s a really good database and you will see it explode over the next couple of years. It’s an unbeatable commission structure for the agents. The database ... it’s unbelievable what Randall [Curry]’s created. It’s exciting times ahead to be honest, it’s an exciting brand to be a part of.
