AREC applauds return to live learning

There’s nothing quite like a live event, and a return to in-person event capability has already seen strong demand for the 2021 iteration of the Australasian Real Estate Conference (AREC).

This year’s conference, capped at a COVID-safe 3,000 attendees, combines three key industry-specific teams — residential sales, property management and mortgage broking — and is all set to take place across Sunday, 30 May, and Monday, 31 May, at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre.

It’s shaping up to be one of Australia’s largest industry events since COVID-19 came on the scene, according to AREC founder John McGrath.

He said: “The response to date has been very strong, as there appears to be a resounding desire for industry participants to get back into a live learning environment.”

Even with most markets in Australasia being buoyant at present, Mr McGrath said they are “getting a huge cross-section of agents wanting to sharpen their tools and attend the event”.

He said agents whose businesses have grown 300–400 per cent in the last few years have been among the first to buy tickets for their team.

It’s led him to note that “despite Zoom and YouTube providing some good learning options during lockdown periods, there’s nothing that replaces the experience of being in a live learning environment with other like-minded people”.

“And the fact that we will be able to present our international keynote speakers to the live event is a huge bonus to ensure our team get the best in learning.”

For Nichola Byrne, the general manager of Total Real Estate Training, while COVID-19 did change the world, “now is the time to move beyond that, take back the real estate landscape and be better, faster and more effective than we were before”.

“We are in a new decade, and this event will focus on owning the new era, in business and in life,” she said.

Explaining that this year’s conference will deliver strategies to ensure attendees are able to control their own destiny, whatever the challenges, she said the “robust and diverse line-up” will provide content that delegates “can implement in their businesses and personal lives immediately”.

She also expressed that they are “thrilled to have a 50 per cent contingent of female speakers”.

International keynotes include NY Times bestselling author Ryan Holiday as well as global business and fashion icon Elle Macpherson.

Lisa Wilkinson will take to the stage, with the conference program also bolstered by the likes of psychologist Guy Winch, aerial skier Jacqui Cooper, high-performance coach Josh Phegan, John McGrath and Jodie Fox.

A host of Australasian real estate industry identities across sales, property management and mortgage broker streams will also take to the stage.

Tom Panos will continue to play a starring role, having MC’d the event for the past decade.

Of this year’s event, he said: “I have never seen so much excitement and anticipation by the industry to get off the Zoom webinar and be eyeball to eyeball, belly to belly than ever before.

“COVID clarity means the game has changed.

“At AREC 2021, delegates will learn new methodologies to get listings, make sales and create eminence in your marketplace. This is the year you don’t want to miss.”
