Lisa Siffleet understands that confrontation can be a stressful element of property management, but she knows the importance of leaving work at the office and never taking it home with her.

When did you first join the PM industry? 

In 2006.

Why did you join the PM industry?

The position became available when our property manager started looking after our properties in New Zealand.

What were you doing before PM?

I was employed in the printing industry.

What would you like your next career step to be?

To be self-employed and running my own business.

What piece of technology do you find the most useful for your business and why?

iPad – not only does it look more professional, but it’s very user-friendly.

What area of PM needs more training focused on it and why?

Communications with the owner in order to dissolve any doubt they may have in our services.

What skills does a PM/BDM need to be successful?

Again communication, and making the clients feel comfortable and confident in their decision to employ your services.

Where do you believe PM’s responsibilities should start and end?

The Tenancy Act being kept up-to-date with compliance and the latest changes to resources.

How do you deal with disgruntled and aggressive tenants?

Remain calm and NEVER snap back, otherwise the situation will implode tenfold, guaranteed.  Just hear them out.

What would you be doing if you weren’t in the PM industry?

A similar admin position, possibly medical receptionist. Ideally, I’d like to study the arts again full time.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Building and sustaining relationships with both owners and tenants.

What are the most stressful aspects of your job?

Confrontation from owners would be the most stressful and hearing out their complaints about work required for the property.

How do you relax after a stressful day at work?

Taking the dogs for a good run along the beach usually clears the tension. NEVER take it home with you.

How would you describe a perfect property management day?
Hanging out with a great team and getting properties leased to great tenants … SWEET!
