A platform that’s determined to re-engineer the online listings search experience has reported wide take-up in the 18 months since its launch.

And now with its own mobile app, PropertyMate is hoping to continue to capture a greater share of the pie.

The proptech, which describes itself as “industry-owned”, debuted its product and desktop offering in December 2022, and iPhone and Android apps in July 2023. Now, PropertyMate is eagerly anticipating the expansion of its user base, having received positive feedback from real estate brands, small and large, across the country.

It reports to have over 600 brands on board, encompassing national networks, independent agencies and boutique firms. Altogether, the company estimates that it accounts for roughly 3,300 real estate offices.

Last financial year, PropertyMate recorded that agents who used their platform sold approximately 200,000 properties, meaning that roughly half of the country’s actively selling professionals include their listings on PropertyMate.

Key to its appeal is an AI-driven algorithm that uses something akin to the dating app model to help consumers find properties that might appeal to them. With a “swipe left, swipe right” function, the platform describes its approach to listings searches as “lifestyle-focused”, delivering results that are tailored to a buyer’s unique preferences.

Additionally, its “Off Market” and “Coming Soon” tools aim to give consumers a preview of new properties while helping agents get online faster and build early campaign momentum.

Steven Abbott, PropertyMate co-founder and Jellis Craig managing director, said the product is driven by a desire to offer Australian property hunters more options and opportunities by presenting a wide array of potential properties that speak to their ultimate lifestyle goals.

“The technology we’ve built is challenging every traditional method of searching for property, creating an exciting and modernised property hunt that’s all about lifestyle, in addition to location,” Mr Abbott said.

John McGrath, CEO of McGrath Real Estate, commented that the platform has proven its ability to add greater depth to the online search experience.

“Buyers and sellers have been looking for a different search option for some time now. The larger portals are effective at servicing basic enquiries, but their technology and features are very safe,” he said, professing a belief that the tool “is offering something new and innovative which is what both industry and consumers have been looking for”.

Moreover, Marshall White director, John Bongiorno, described the unique interface as “fun”.
