An LJ Hooker agency has trekked 80 kilometres in one day to raise funds and awareness for children who are victims of human trafficking and sexual exploitation.

LJ Hooker’s Property Experience South team has walked 80 kilometres in one day from Perth to Mandurah, as part of a campaign to fight child exploitation and trafficking.

The Tread on Trafficking, a national initiative, has been designed to encourage Australians to make an impact by physically challenging themselves.

Non-profit organisation Destiny Rescue, behind the campaign, will give all the proceeds towards rescuing children across the world from trafficking and sexual exploitation.

LJ Hooker Property Experience South, based in Mandurah, began the trek at 4am, walking for 17 hours on coastal tracks and bushland trails.

To date, the team has raised more than $6,900, with donations still being made to the cause.

LJ Hooker head of network Australia, Chris Keating, commended the team's effort as the network encourages participation in meaningful causes.

“It’s always wonderful to see an LJ Hooker team participating in a community initiative,” he told REB.

“We encourage our franchisees to support causes that are important to them, whether large or small.”

According to property investment department manager Lena Quirk, the team joined the initiative to raise funds to rescue children and provide the required aftercare when they are freed.

“This is such an important cause for our team. We wanted to push ourselves physically to raise awareness and funds for an issue that’s too often hidden,” she said.

Destiny Rescue chief operations officer Geoff Harrison said that community-led efforts play an essential role in curbing child trafficking.

“Grassroots campaigns like this create real impact, not just in raising funds that will go directly towards our rescue operations and aftercare programs, but in starting conversations,” he said.

“We’re incredibly grateful to the LJ Hooker team for turning their steps into life-changing action.”
